Europe's Tribute to Elvis

The Taking Care of Elvis Band

Daniel Jack Caney

  • Instrument: Bass Guitar

Dan is 37 and from Reading. He's been playing bass and singing for the last 23 years, having first been inspired to pick up a guitar and learn to sing harmony by The Beatles. He later took up the bass because of Paul McCartney, John Entwistle and Dave Peacock of Chas and Dave (yes, you did read that correctly!).

Dan grew up listening to Elvis thanks to his big brother, who was always playing his music at home. He has a degree in Popular Music from Sheffield University.

Richard Gibson

  • Instrument: Keyboards

Richard is a 38 year old classically trained pianist with a degree in music. He's worked as a professional piano player for over 19 years at numerous venues throughout the UK, holding positions as resident pianist at restaurants in Berkshire and is currently resident pianist at a prestigious five-star spa-hotel in Surrey. Richard is also a rare old-fashioned saloon singer covering the sublime repertoire of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and similar artists.

Richard joined the Taking Care of Elvis Band in December 2008 as keyboardist and has toured both in the UK and abroad. He now owns a pair of gold Elvis sunglasses himself and a growing collection of Elvis records, movies and books.

David Portsmouth

  • Instrument: Drums

David is 37 and has been the TCE drummer for 7 years. He started drumming at school and later continued this passion by joining local Indie bands and attending drum clinics hosted by A-list drummers such as Chad Smith, Steve White and Terry Bozio. His drumming influences are the Mowtown Bros, Ronnie Tutt and James Brown's drummers over the ages. His favourite Elvis song is 'An American Trilogy' as it reminds him of his childhood. As Ben Portsmouth's brother, David enjoys sharing the stage with him and his wife Natalie, whilst remembering and recreating the magic of Elvis.

Ryan Quartermaine

  • Instrument: Lead Guitar

Ryan, aged 30 from Maidenhead has been a big Elvis fan since early childhood and remembers watching video footage of the '68 Comeback Special and Aloha concerts as a kid. From there, the influence of Elvis and music in general has remained a key part of his life. Besides Elvis, his musical influences include Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix, The Eagles, Bob Marley and many more.

Having started playing the guitar from the age of 14, Ryan began attending local jam and open mic nights and depping for several local bands throughout his teens. Prior to joining the TCE band in March 2012, Ryan has played in a 50's rock-'n'-roll band and is also guitarist/vocalist in a bluegrass band called Papa Truck. He is thrilled to now be able to play the part of two of his guitar idols: Scotty Moore and of course James Burton.

Her music choice on a weekend is anything from The Beatles to Bowie or Kate Bush to Dub Step, depending what her and her family's mood is. Her favourite Elvis song us Twelfth of Never as that is what she walked down the aisle to when she married the TCE drummer in August 2012.
